The Bridge

Connecting citizens with European politics to push environmental urgency back to the centre of the EU’s political agenda.

The Bridge raises public awareness about the ongoing overshoot of planetary boundaries, with a strong focus on the climate crisis. The organisation brings European citizens together to run campaigns demanding that EU institutions adopt stronger climate and environmental policies. The Bridge works through three key action levers: (1) Designing and supporting high-impact citizen campaigns; (2) Citizen mobilization, digital and ground actions; (3) Strategic advocacy with European decision-makers.

The challenge they want to solve

The European Union plays a pivotal role in meeting the objectives of the Paris Agreement, but its decision-making process remains opaque to citizens and is often captured by political interests and lobbies, delaying the necessary action. In this context, the Bridge aims to play a crucial role in fostering coordinated action to make climate action more ambitious, visible, and democratic within European institutions.

The impact they have

The Bridge fosters coordinated action to make climate action more ambitious, visible, and democratic within European institutions by uniting a pan-European movement of citizens, associations, and experts, developing compelling campaigns in the media, and providing concrete and accessible means of action to effectively influence European legislation.

The way we measure it

We evaluate the campaigns by measuring their reach (number of citizens mobilised and national networks supported), the resources deployed (number of campaigns and mobilisation methods used) and their outcomes (number of European policies positively influenced).
