The construction sector across many African markets remains deeply informal and inefficient, with procurement processes often plagued by fragmentation and opacity. Builders struggle to access reliable information on product pricing, availability, and technical specifications, making planning and execution unpredictable. Quality assurance and traceability are rarely guaranteed, leading to inconsistent material standards and compliance issues. Additionally, delivery timelines are frequently missed, causing costly delays and project disruptions.
The impact they have
Blok aims to significantly improve the efficiency and reliability of construction projects in Francophone Africa by streamlining the procurement of quality, certified materials. By aggregating small retailers and giving them collective bargaining power, the platform ensures access to compliant products at better prices. Builders can now rely on real-time product information, guaranteed traceability, and timely deliveries — reducing project delays and improving cost control. In doing so, Blok contributes to formalising a fragmented sector and supports the development of safe, affordable, and sustainable infrastructure across the region.
The way we measure it
We measure the improvement in procurement efficiency through indicators such as weekly GMV growth, average basket size, order frequency per client, and on-time delivery rates. We also track the number of onboarded quincailleries and constructors, as well as the volume of certified SKUs ordered via the platform, to assess our reach and impact across the construction ecosystem.
